The Organising and Scientific Committees of the ICAR Conference 2024 invite you to read guedlines for ICAR 2024 presentations below.
General topic:
“SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION SYSTEMS IN A NEW ERA”
Please, read the guidelines detailed below to prepare your abstract before proceeding with the submission through the online submission form.
We invite you to submit your abstract in one of the eleven sessions that offer a variety of exciting topics where your new knowledge and technologies can be highlighted. The Abstract has to be limited to 600 words. Template for preparing abstract is here.
Session chairs will select the abstracts, and the final decision will be communicated. A reply about the acceptance or rejection of a submitted abstract will be communicated to the Corresponding Author by 25 March 2024.
The ICAR 2024 Annual Conference is an in-person event. For that reason, a Speaker (Presenting author in-person in Bled) must be indicated when submitting your abstract. You can always change the speaker but not later than 30 March 2024. The speaker must also be registered to the event not later than 31 March 2024.
In case that in the Abstract there is no speaker named and/or registered, the Organizing Committee will not include the abstract in the final program.
Deadline for submission: April 1st, 2024
Decision: March 25th, 2024
SESSIONS/TOPICS
We are looking for the submission of abstracts to various technical sessions indicated below. These sessions are offering an exciting opportunity to present your recent technical advances in the domain in animal identification, milk production recording and evaluation, milk analysis, animal health and animal welfare, feed and gas, sustainability and artificial intelligence etc.
- ICAR Plenary session (invited speakers only) (Chairs: Marina Pintar & Tatjana Pirman)
- ICAR / INTERBULL Joint Session: “Data collection for Beef on Dairy” (Chairs: Matthew Shaffer & Jo Newton)
- This session builds on the Brian Wickham Young Person Exchange Program project on “Beef from Dairy: the role of genetic improvement in integrating our beef and dairy sectors” by Jo Newton. The key discussion points for the session are: “What is the experience of collecting information on beef on dairy?” and “What do we need to do to improve this process?”.
- ICAR Session 1: “Decision Support Tools of the Future – Promoting Sustainability Farm Management” (Chair: Robert H. Fourdraine)
- ICAR Session 2: “New tools to extend the horizon of milk mid-infrared spectrometry” (Chair: Josée Bordeleau)
- ICAR Session 3a / 3b: “Factors Affecting the Accuracy of the Recording Day” (Chair: Steven Sievert)
- This session explores various factors impacting the accuracy or milk yield prediction or sampling on milk recording days that includes direct and indirect effects of air admission, carry-over, mounting positions, equipment design and variations in the milk harvest plant on the dairy.
- ICAR Session 4: “Value Adding to Electronic Identification” (Chair: Ken Evers)
- ICAR Session 5: “How to relate on farm sustainability and milk analysis?” (Chair: Josée Bordeleau)
- ICAR Session 6: “Evaluation and presentation of new parameters in herd management for dairy farms” (Chairs: Kai Kuwan & Betka Logar)
- ICAR Session 7: “Breeding for agro-ecological transition in sheep and goats” (Chairs: Jean-Michel Astruc & Mojca Simčič)
- This session aims at exploring new traits, new methods and new breeding objectives related to agroecological transition in small ruminant, through phenotypes collection, genetic evaluation and implementation in breeding programs. We expect abstracts focusing on breeding for efficiency, resilience, and adaptation to climate change in sheep and goats. The contributions may deal with practical achievements, new results or on-going projects on this topic
- ICAR Session 8: “Global challenges in measuring methane in ruminants” (Chairs: Birgit Gredler-Grandl and Roel Veerkamp)
- This session is organised in collaboration of the ICAR Feed&Gas Working Group and the Global Methane Genetics program by Wageningen University Research. In this session invited speakers will present an overview of current initiatives and developments in measuring methane emission in dairy and beef cattle, sheep as well as report about challenges and gaps in measuring methane emission in Africa, South America and Asia. This session will close with open discussion. We invite submissions as poster presentations about initiatives and projects evaluating genetics as methane mitigation tool all over the world including recording, phenotypic and genetic analyses of methane emission in ruminants
- ICAR Session 9: “Genomic’s impact on Livestock Sustainability” (Chair: Gerben de Jong)
- ICAR Session 10: “New approaches in the field of functional traits for management and breeding” (Chairs: Christa Egger Danner & Luiz Brito)
- The session covers new tools and developments to improve functional traits by breeding or management. Contributions based on novel or extended data sources, advanced statistical models and approaches, the use of novel technologies and sensors for new phenotyping strategies, as well as the combination of extended data sources and novel approaches to benefit animal health and welfare are of interest.
- ICAR Session 11: “LCA – Life Cycle Assessment: Application in Livestock Sector” (Chairs: Zucali Maddalena and Raffaella Finocchiaro)
- This session, organized in collaboration with the ICAR Feed & Gas Working Group, focuses on the environmental impact evaluation on-farm level as well as on livestock production level. The primary objective is to identify hot spots and explore mitigation strategies for achieving a more sustainable approach to livestock production in the near future. Contributions to this session may cover practical achievements for farmers, present new research findings, or discuss ongoing projects related to this critical topic.
- ICAR Session 12: “Resilience for Dairy” (posters only) – (Chair: Marija Klopčič)
